When adding to your horse’s diet, our gelatin supplement delivers a high-quality supplemental source of protein. Gelatin is used for the growth and development of the hoof, in much the same way as in human fingernails. The addition of Biotin in this gelatin supplement makes an excellent complement for hoof, skin and coat nutrition. Biotin helps in the absorption and utilization of the amino acids in gelatin as well as the vegetable proteins in the hay, corn and other feeds. The recommended feed rate for Gelatin + Biotin is 1 ounce per day per 1,000 pounds of body weight. This product does NOT contain fat or tryptophane. It is 100% pure gelatin + biotin with no fillers.
The gelatin molecule is made up of amino acids joined together by amide linkages in a long molecular chain. There are 18 different amino acids in gelatin, each occurring in its level and sequence in the molecule.
Gelatin is a protein derived from collagen, which is the primary structural component of skin, bones, tendons and other fibrous tissues. Gelatin minus the moisture and a small amount of mineral salt is 100% pure soluble protein.
Gelatin Plus Biotin contains 15 mg of Biotin per ounce. The optimum level of biotin supplementation depends on the body weight of the horses. The following standards are expressed in milligrams per day: Ponies 5-10, riding horses 15, heavy workhorses 25 – 30. It is essential to continue biotin supplementation for proper maintenance even after hoof repair is complete.
When gelatin is stored in a tightly sealed poly-lined container in normal indoor conditions, it will remain stable indefinitely. The only exception will be if the gelatin is kept in heat, above (45°C) 133° F with relative humidity above 60 degrees. In this scenario, the gelatin supplement will gradually lose its ability to swell and dissolve.
This product is feed grade material and not for human consumption. Please consult with your veterinarian before administering. This product is designed for supplemental feeding only.
